Why do you #ChooseAdventure?
When I was growing up I was really focused on surviving being a foster kid and being whoever I needed to become in order to stay in the current home. I feel like as an adult I can finally play, be free and just enjoy being happy.
Adventure makes you feel...
Adventure makes me feel like my middle name, Sunshine. I feel warm, bright, and hopeful. I get energized and inspired.
Favorite type of adventure?
My favorite type of adventure is active, bordering on a tiny bit scary (pushing limits) and culturally infused. I want to learn as much as I can about the world and about myself as possible.
Favorite adventure to date?
My favorite adventure to date is when I hopped on a plane headed for Korea all by myself. I had never travelled anywhere by myself but I flew there and spent the night in the airport until the buses resumed the next morning. Then I spent the next 3 weeks exploring my mom’s home country and eating some of the most amazing foods ever. I went running through farmland and no one runs there (or didn’t at the time), so there was a lot of staring. As cliche as it sounds I finally understood more about why my mom held certain beliefs despite spending the last 30yrs in the US. Oh and Korean people are so nice! If anyone goes, they must see the Jeju divers!
What is your next adventure planned?
My next adventure is visiting the Terra Cotta Soldiers later this spring and doing the China Hash this weekend. There’s a group of runners called Hash Harriers (all over the world) who get together in their local cities, someone plots a course with clues and then of course there’s drinking. But the China hash is all of the hashes around China getting together and running all weekend!
Your ultimate adventure bucket list is?
My ultimate adventure bucket list is going to New Zealand to Skydive (I’ve never been).
The person/people who inspire me most to take an adventure is...
The people who inspire me the most to have adventures are my college crew. They were always having the most fun possible and I remember thinking that I wanted to create a life filled with amazing friends and even greater adventures. So several years later I did. I’m so happy I met them.
