What would you do to save your home, your city? Máxima Acuña may be small, but she is fearless and her activism halted the world's second largest gold mining company's plan to further destroy her home in a remote area of Peru. Her story is being shared as part of the Wild and Scenic Film Festival in the film, Water Song, by Will Parrinello & Mill Valley Film Group. When Máxima refused to leave her home after threats from Newmont and Buenaventura Mining, she was greeting with violence, vandalism, and legal action. She didn't back down and fought back and rallied support from her community. Her fight is far from over though, and if her story moves you in some way, please see how you can take action below.
She is living proof that one person can drive change.
- Stand with Acuña as she continues to defy the mining companies threatening to destroy her home.
- Call on Newmont Mining Company to drop their lawsuit against Acuña and stop using violence against her, her family, and community.
